The article describes results of sonographic examinations of the gluteus maximus, medius and minimus muscles in 20 patients with aseptic necrosis of their femoral head (ANFH). The thickness of the muscle and subcutaneous fat was measured; the ratio between the thickness of the muscle and that of the subcutaneous fat was calculated. Also, the soft tissue structure was assessed and additional inclusions were revealed. The most evident tissue changes were found out in the gluteus medius muscle. Echogenicity at an early stage of the disease was low; visualization revealed diffuse fluid alveoli, owing to which it was practically impossible to differentiate muscle fibres. The muscular coat of all muscles in patients with ANFH was significantly thickened and consolidated. Proceeding from the cited results, some functional and structural changes of the pelvic girdle muscles in osteonecrosis were revealed, these muscles taking part in motor actions of the lower extremity.References
