Modern classification and nomenclature for upper and lower limbs prostheses in Ukraine

Abstract

The integral part of realization of numerous rehabilitational measures concerning elimination of limitations of disability of persons with limitation of motor functions is well-timed and rational prescription of necessary prosthetic and orthotic products by experts of medical-social commissions of experts and medical - consulting commissions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine during the development of the individual program of rehabilitation for a particular person and immediate management of invalids by defined types of prostheses of extremities by their manufacturing on individual order by the enterprises and organizations of the Ministry for Social Policy of Ukraine.

The purpose of the work is the improvement of normative and methodical management of activity of establishments, organizations and enterprises involved in rehabilitation of persons with congenital and amputating defects of upper and lower extremities.

The list of basic classification groups of prostheses of upper and lower extremities and other technical means of rehabilitation with which invalids are provided free of charge is determined by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 05.04.2012 № 321.

Classification groups of prostheses of upper and lower extremities according to the codes of ISO 9999:2002 submitted in the above-stated list also have underlain in corresponding sections of one of the basic branch normative documents which contains assortment series of varieties of prostheses of upper and lower extremities - «Nomenclatures of technical and other means of rehabilitation for persons with physical defects which are made and/or realized in Ukraine».

The complete code of products in subgroups reflects except for a level of localization of defect of an upper extremity also an information concerning possible constructive - technological attributes of a defined type of a prosthesis and a level of its functionality, and for prostheses of lower extremities - degrees of mobility of the consumer, an admissible level of loading of a prosthesis which is interconnected to the weight of the adult or the child.

During development of the individual program of rehabilitation for experts of medical-social commissions of experts and medical - consulting commissions of Ministry of Health of Ukraine it is more convenient to apply the other type of the document - the catalogue. With this purpose in the Ukrainian Research Institute for Prosthetics and Rehabilitation there has been developed an electronic version of the catalogue «Prosthetic and orthotic products» which is annually renewed.

Introducing of the information in the catalogue «Prosthetic and orthotic products» in the sections «Systems of prostheses of upper extremities» and «Systems of prostheses of lower extremities» testifies that each of the users of the catalogue can obtain necessary data concerning any type of a prosthesis of upper and lower extremities, indications for its prescription and constructional features.

Development of the Nomenclature of technical resources of rehabilitation and more brief and illustrated document - the catalogue «Prosthetic and orthotic products» ensure the effective help to experts of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry for Social Policy of Ukraine during prescription and choice of prostheses for upper and lower extremities with functional properties and reliability necessary for the consumer.
